Abstract

1310980 Pipe couplings SHINWA TRADING CO Ltd and AMAGASAKI COKE INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 July 1970 36473/70 Heading F2G [Also in Division F4] In apparatus for removing dust laden gas generated when coke is discharged from a coke oven into a coke quenching truck, the dustladen gas is led from the hood 61 of the truck into a main suction duct 60 via a connecting duct 62. As shown a longitudinally extending slit 63 is provided in the lower wall 60a of the main duct 60, the slit being closed by a magnetic tape 65 attracted by a pair of rails 64 of permanent magnetic material. The head portion 66 of the duct 62 is disposed between the rails 64 and the magnetic tape 65, dust laden-air entering the duct 60 through openings 68a in opposite walls 68 of the head portion. Guide rollers 72 and 73 are provided for the tape which passes over the head portion and the arrangement is such that the connecting duct 62, which is movable longitudinally along the main duct 60, at all times extends into and is permanently in communication with the duct 60, the slit 63 on each side of the head portion being sealed by the tape 65. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the connecting duct (42) communicates with the main suction duct (40) via an opening (43) in the main duct which is normally spring urged closed by means of a blocking plate (44). The connecting duct (42) comprises a reciprocable double walled duct having a series of peripheral openings (47) at its upper end. When operatively extended to enter the main duct, the duct (42) lifts the blocking plate upwardly against the spring force.
