1356975 Nestable containers FOSTER GRANT CO Inc 27 July 1971 [27 July 1970] 35293/71 Heading A4A [Also in Division B8] A side wall or skirt portion 29 of a nestable container formed with a plurality of outwardlyprojecting lugs 32, which have co-planar bottom surfaces 36 defining an interrupted external shelf surface and which merge at their upper ends into a lateral shoulder to define an interrupted internal shelf surface 31 having a complementary configuration, is additionally formed with shelf members 38 or 44, each of which either bridge the lower portions of adjacent lugs 32A, 32B, Fig.1, or bridge the upper end portion of a lug, Fig.8, to provide additional shelf surfaces 139 or 45. The shelf members prevent jamming of one container nested within another with the upper container being supported by its lugs on the shoulder of the lower container even in the event of the lugs of both containers being in alignment. The lugs may be of rectangular, sinuisoidal, or triangular configuration, Figs.9 and 10 (not shown). The container is of plastics material, e.g. polystyrene, polyethylene or polypropylene, and may be thermo-formed or compression or injection-moulded. The container may be of frustro-conical or polyhedral shape.
