Abstract

1356790 Jointing by stamping SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 Aug 1971 [28 Aug 1970 28 Aug 1970] 41525/70 and 41526/70 Heading B3Q [Also in Divisions B5 and F1] Fluid pressure supply apparatus comprises a fluid pressure source PF, a feed path 8, a return path 12, pressure relief valves 15, 16 connected in parallel between the paths, the valve 16 relieving pressure in path 8 at a lower pressure than the valve 15, and means selectively to render effective or ineffective the valve 16. The latter means may comprise a solenoid actuated valve 18 in series with the valve 16. The apparatus supplies fluid through a changeover valve 10 to a cylinder 1 which operates jaws which crimp together pairs of wires in a connecting tag. In operation the jaws start to close under a low pressure determined by the valve 16 and if the jaws meet no obstruction a switch is actuated to close the valve 18. When the pressure in the path reaches a set value (beneath that required to operate the valve 15) a switch 11 is actuated to cause valve 10 to changeover. The operation of valve 10 may be delayed by a fixed or variable resistance being positioned in parallel with the winding of the solenoid of the valve 10.
