Abstract
135,645. Bontoft, C. Dec. 10, 1918. Expanding wheels; spring wheels with sectional outer guided members.-Relates to wheels with expansible spokes and expansible and telescopic peripheries. The hub is formed of two sleeves 1 keyed on the shaft or axle 2 and having radial lugs 5 carrying the inner ends of lazy-tongs 6 constituting the spokes. The spokes carry, through lugs 8, a lazy-tongs 7 on which is disposed a series of overlapping plates 12 mounted on the pivots 13 of the levers 7. The plates are tapered at each end to allow telescopic movement. In the case of a resilient wheel, the shaft is provided with springs 26 abutting against adjustable collars 17. An endless spiral spring 19 may be mounted on the periphery by clips 20, and the plates 12 may be curved to provide a seating.
