Abstract

1356410 Injection apparatus A B CLAASEN 29 Dec 1971 [25 Jan 1971 25 Aug 1971] 60540/71 Heading A5R A device for introducing a medicinal medium into the body hrough the anus comprises a collapsible container 1 for the medium, a cannula 2 rigidly carried by the container and having at least one outlet 4 for the medium, and sealing means 8 that allows an initial buildup of pressure in the container, when collapsing pressure is applied to the container, before opening to allow the medicinal medium to be discharged under pressure from the cannula, the sealing means thereafter being incapable of allowing any subsequent build-up of pressure in the container. The sealing means comprises a ball 8 which is held in the passage of the cannula by friction. When sufficient pressure exists in the container to overcome the friction, the ball moves up the passage past the outlets 4. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the sealing means takes the form of a rupturable foil (5) of aluminium or plastics material interposed between the container and cannula.
