Abstract
1355987 Coating carbon fibres with metals; sintered fibres SCHLADITZWHISKERS AG 8 Nov 1971 [13 Nov 1970] 51773/71 Headings C7D and C7F [Also in Divisions H1 and H5] Carbon fibres produced by the carbonization of natural or synthetic fibres are coated with e.g. Ni, Cr, W or Mo or mixtures thereof by the decomposition of their carbonyls. The fibres are subsequently cut and compacted either by sintering in a mould at e.g. 600 to 1000 C or as shown by pressing between pistons 2, 3 whilst feeding a 90% argon 10% nickel carbonyl mixture through bores 8 in the pistons and heating the fibres by passing a current through them.
