Abstract

1355413 Forming flanges on containers METAL BOX CO Ltd 13 May 1971 [9 March 1971] 14715/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] A plastics container (see Division B8) is blown with a cylindrical portion 3 connected to the container neck 2 by a cheek 4. The portion 3 is removed and the cheek is turned to form a flange using a water-cooled core 7 and a surrounding socket 9. The formation of the flange is effected either by using a heated socket 9 which is moved downwardly, or by rotating the socket 9 and utilizing heat generated by the friction between the socket and the neck.
