Abstract

1355270 Making boxes D A CARR 20 Dec 1972 [23 Sept 1971] 44465/71 Heading B5D In a machine for making fibreboard boxes in flat form, a blank having one panel 8 and glue flap 10 folded flat and another panel 9 in a vertical position is fed by a pair of belts 1 past a glue applicator 2, to a folding rod (3, Fig. 4) which folds down the panel 9, then past rollers (4, Fig. 4) which squares up the folded carton and finally to a compression conveyer which presses the glued lap joint. The glue applicator is tripped by sensing means actuated by the leading edge of the blank and which may be micro-switches, photo-electric cells, fluidic or mechanical sensors. The compression conveyer transports the blanks to a discharge station. A sheet feeder for unfolded blanks may feed blanks to a prefolding station and at the discharge station there may be means for counting, stacking, and ejecting the blanks. The machine can be adjusted to take blanks of different sizes.
