Abstract

1436205 Making cartons M BAUDET 2 Aug 1973 [2 Aug 1972] 36698/73 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] A machine for erecting and securing together a tray-like blank as shown in Fig. 1 or modifications thereof (Figs. 4, 7, 9, not shown) comprises a magazine 200, conveying mechanism 201b that receives the lowermost blank from suction grippers 200b and transfers each blank to a coating or inking section 202 and then to a hot-air or infra-red preheating tunnel 205, past hot-air guns or microwave heaters at the exit from the tunnel which soften adhesive adjacent corner portions of the blank that are to be overlapped and to a device 206 that speeds up the blank to allow time for a pressing operation at a station 207. At the pressing station a punch 208 moves down forcing the blank into a die, both punch and die retract to release the carton. A pre-folding device 210 having fixed and retractable pegs determines the order in which the walls and flanges are folded during formation of the carton. Subsequently, the formed cartons are ejected and moved into the bottom of a column stacking unit.
