Abstract
1354753 Steam corrosion inhibiting emulsions DIAMOND SHAMROCK CORP 26 Aug 1971 [27 Aug 1970] 40106/71 Heading C7E [Also in Division B1] A steam corrosion inhibiting aqueous emulsion comprises 1 to 25% of solids consisting of (A) 8 to 20 parts by weight of a C 12 - 22 fatty amine selected from (i) one or more saturated n-alkylamines; (ii) one or more saturated n-alkylamines having 1 or 2 unsaturated branch moieties (iii) branched alkylamines; (iv) a mixture or a hydrpgenated mixture of any of (i)-(iii) (B) 1 to 7 parts by weight of at least one cationic isothiouronium salt emulsifier having the general formula: - where R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 10 to 22 C atoms and R<SP>1</SP> is an acetate, bromide chloride or sulphate, and (C) 0-7 parts by weight of emulsion stabilizer consisting of an ethoxylated straight chain aliphatic and containing 14 to 20 C atoms. Many components are specified but preferred emulsifiers are dodecyl isothiouronium chloride and paraffin wax isothiouronium. Preferred amines are octadecylamine and hydrogenated tallow amine the emulsion stabilizer may be octadecanonic acid ethoxylated with 5 to 25 moles of ethylene oxide. 0À10-20% of the emulsion is added to a boiler and heated to break the emulsion into its component parts, to vaporize the amine and to allow it to disperse through and coat the boiler.
