Abstract

1354621 Boots &c SHOE & ALLIED TRADES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 26 Jan 1972 [26 Jan 1971] 3212/71 Heading A3B A shoe upper or component thereof comprises a shoe lining material joined to a polyurethane-based shoe outer material along a welded seam, the lining material comprising a leather substitute material laminated to a second layer or layers of a polyurethane-based thermoplastic thermoformable material which is weldable to the outer material, the mutually weldable polyurethane materials being in contact. The leather substitute material is a flexible synthetic thermoplastic, thermoformable sheet material devoid of any fabric backing. The leather substitute matrial may be PVC which may be embossed and rendered porous to perspiration. Welding may be effected by high frequency line or spot welding. The second polyurethane layer or layers may be formed on the leather substitute material in a discontinuous pattern. In the Example PVC plastisol is spread on to a release paper, gelled by heating and after complete or incomplete cooling spread with a solution of a polyurethane in methyl ethyl ketone and dried. A sample of the material so produced is highfrequency welded along a tear-seal weld line to a poromeric polyurethane upper material.
