Abstract

1354085 Pistons MAHLE GmbH 26 Oct 1972 [5 Nov 1971] 49516/72 Heading F2T A piston for an I.C. engine comprises a sleeve 3 attached to a main portion 2, the sleeve 3 being detachable by friction against the cylinder if jamming occurs. Attachment may be by soft soldering, Fig. 1 (not shown), the solder being fusible by frictional heating, or shear pins (5), Fig. 2 (not shown), may be breakable to release the sleeve 3. Also, Fig. 3, a shearable flange 7 may be bolted to the portion 2, or, Fig. 4 (not shown), a sleeve 3 of resilient material, e.g. steel, may have a corrugation (11) for engaging a recess in the portion 2.
