Abstract
1353900 Selective signalling JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 1 Nov 1971 [11 Nov 1970] 53546/70 Heading G4H An engine (e.g. for a road vehicle) is tested by deriving first and second digital signals representing first and second engine parameters respectively, applying them to a matrix, and controlling a characteristic of the engine in accordance with the matrix output. As disclosed, the first digital signal, representing throttle angle, is decoded from binary to 1-outof-n to energize one row of a matrix of detachable diodes, the output from one of a plurality of groups of columns of the matrix being selected in accordance with the second digital signal, representing engine speed, this signal having been decoded from binary to 1-out-of-n. The output of the selected group of columns is decoded to control fuel injection and/or ignition timing in the engine. The diode connections are varied by trial for optimum results. This can be facilitated by providing manual switches to be used as an alternative input to the final decoder, to simulate diode connections, it being easier to change the switch settings than the diode connections. Manifold pressure is mentioned as an alternative engine parameter.
