Abstract
1353822 Sintering by electron beams TSENTRALNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT CHERNOI METALLURGII IMENI IP BARDINA 6 May 1971 13583/71 Heading C7D [Also in Divisions H1 and H5] A workpiece 9 formed of pressed powdered refractory material e.g. W, Mo or Nb is sintered in a chamber 1 under vacuum conditions by simultaneous electron bombardment of its entire surface. A cathode heater 6 surrounds the workpiece and is mounted on current leads 7. A pillar 8 vertically movable in chamber 1 supports the workpiece. Molybdenum shields 5 surround the cathode heater 6. The workpiece 9 is heated to a temperature equal to 10-15% of its melting point on the centigrade scale and held at this temperature until gas ceases to evolve therefrom. Further heating at the rate of 50 degrees/min is carried out up to the sintering temperature. (For Figure see next page)
