Abstract

1353605 Sampling powder T ALLEN 18 May 1971 [19 May 1970] 24178/70 Heading B8N A powder sampling device comprises a hopper 10, and an inclined, e.g. at 4 degrees to the horizontal, vibratory shoot 11 which feeds powder discharged from the hopper towards a rotary dividing head 14 comprising a plurality of apertures 13, e.g. twelve (as shown) or sixteen, each of which receives a plurality of portions, e.g. 40 of powder as the head rotates. The head is preferably rotated at 15 r.p.m. As illustrated, a sample collecting vessel 17 is associated with each aperture. In a first alternative arrangement only two vessels 17 are provided, and powder from the other apertures is fed to a bulk container. In a second alternative arrangement, powder from one aperture 13 is directed towards the axis of the head into a sample collecting vessel, whilst the powder from the other apertures is directed away from the axis into a bulk container. The vertical distance between the hopper and the shoot is variable, and the latter is preferably inclined so that powder only passes therealong when the shoot is vibrating. The head is formed by resin moulding and strengthening metal strips are provided in the upper edges of the radially directed walls 16.
