Abstract
1353394 Preparation of #<SP>2</SP>-5α-steroids SHIONOGI & CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970] 41473/73 Divided out of 1353393 Heading C2U A #<SP>2</SP>-5α-H-steroid is prepared by reacting a 3(α or #)-halo or acyloxy-5α-H-steroid with an alkali metal alkoxide. The reaction is preferably effected in a solvent at 60-95‹ C. The products contain less of the unwanted #<SP>3</SP>-isomers than products obtained by known elimination processes. Other by-products include 3-ols and 3-ones.
