Abstract

1353390 Making gas centrifuges HITACHI Ltd 6 Aug 1971 [14 Aug 1970] 37085/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division B2] A cylindrical tubular rotor for a gas centrifuge comprises an inner cylinder formed of a material capable of plastic deformation and an outer cylinder formed of synthetic resin reinforced by fibrous material along its outer periphery, the inner cylinder having been subjected to plastic deformation, e.g. by pressure applied internally thereof, after the assembly of the two cylinders to urge it into close contact with the outer cylinder. The inner cylinder may be formed of a material resistant to corrosion by uranium hexafluoride, e.g. an alloy of Al with Cu and Mg or with Zn and Mg and optionally Cu. The outer cylinder may be formed from an epoxy resin reinforced by glass fibres. The glass fibres may be wound at an angle with respect to the circumferential direction.
