Abstract

1353263 Orientating suspended loads FRUEHAUF CORP 10 Aug 1972 [3 Sept 1971] 37438/72 Heading B8B A gantry crane comprises a trolley system 11 with separable sections 23, 35 (to reduce pendulation) suspending a lifting spreader headblock 25. The rope system shown includes four suspension ropes 13a, 13b and 15a, 15b which lift the ends of the spreader 35 through pairs of sheaves 27 and 37 respectively and two sway arresting ropes 17a, 17b which engages the spreader 35 round sheaves 45, 47 on opposite sides thereof. The pairs of ropes 13a, 13b; 15a, 15b and 17a, 17b can be considered as single ropes being respectively connected at one end to actuators 31, 41, 59 attached at the end of the gantry. At their other ends the ropes are wound simultaneously by drums 19, 49, 43 to raise or lower the spreader 35. Operation of actuator 59 serves to adjust the list of the spreader 35 by tilting it about the Z-Z<SP>1</SP> axis shown. Actuators 31, 41 jointly operated in the same direction adjust the trim of the spreader 35 by tilting it about the X-X<SP>1</SP> axis, while joint operation of the actuators 31, 41 in opposite directions adjusts the skew by rotation of the spreader about the Y-Y<SP>1</SP> axis.
