1353155 Conveyer systems; automatic vehicle control STEWART GILL & CO Ltd 10 Dec 1971 [10 Sept 1970] 43322/70 Headings B7L and B7N A conveyer system for conveying goods from spaced apart substations to a main station comprises an overhead conveyer track, a number of goods-receiving trays supported from the track by trolleys and coupled together, and a traction unit 18 having a carriage 20 suspended from the track by a trolley 19 and driven by a batterypowered electric motor 21 via a belt or chain drive 22 and a traction wheel 23, the speed of the traction unit being regulated to accommodate curved sections of tracks by controlling the speed of the motor 21 by means of actuating devices on the track. The wheel 23 is mounted between cheek plates 25 which can be pivoted at 26 by links 29, a push rod 31 and an eccentric 32 on a lever 33 swung manually by a bar 36 in order to disengage the wheel 23 from the track. The wheel may be spring-biased against the track. The speed of the motor is regulated by adjusting its input from the battery by means of mechanical or reed switches in its supply circuit operated respectively by tripping or magnetic devices located at appropriate positions along the track. A guard 45 is displaced when the traction unit encounters an obstacle resulting in the stopping of the motor 21.
