Abstract
1352954 Cooling moulds H KERNEN 12 Jan 1972 [14 Jan 1971] 1430/72 Heading B5A At least one wall of a mould is cavitied and includes a plurality. of apertures interconnecting the wall cavity and mould cavity to provide for circulation of steam and coolant. As described, a base 2 supports cavitied side walls 4-6, front and back walls 3 (7) (see Fig. 2, not reproduced) and a lid 8, defining three mould cavities 9. The side walls 4-6 include slits interconnecting the wall and mould cavities. A steam distribution pipe 10 is interconnected with the wall cavities by pipes 11, and joins coolant inlet and outlet pipes 20, 13. The mould cavities 9 are filled with a prefoamed rigid plastics granulate, and closed by hinging and locking of the lid 8 and walls 5 (7). Steam is admitted to the upper end of pipe 10 and passes through a three-way stop valve 15 and into the pipes 11, wall cavities, and mould cavities 9. The outlet pipe 13 is held closed by a shut-off valve 21. When foaming and moulding are complete, a valve 12 cuts off the steam supply and an electrical interconnection activates an extractor 14 to draw air from the outlet 13 as far as the valve 21. The drop in air pressure in a pipe 24 activates a cylinder 23 and opens the shut-off valve 21 so that steam and air are withdrawn from the complete system. Air pressure drop in a pipe 19 activates a cylinder 18 and switches valve 15 to block the upper part of pipe 10 and open the lower part to the inlet 20. Cool air is instantaneously drawn by extractor 14 into the inlet 20, through the lower part of pipe 10, the lower pipes 11, wall cavities, upper part of pipe 10 and outlet 13. After cooling, the mould walls 5 (7) and lid 8 are unlocked and hinged open.
