Abstract

1352882 Battery terminal seal SOC DES ACCUMULATEURS FIXES ET DE TRACTION 8 Dec 1971 57115/71 Heading H1B The plastics casing 1 of a battery is sealed by a lid 2 which is moulded in situ from an epoxy resin compound, the moulding process including a polymerization step in which the compound shrinks and tends to break the seal between itself and terminals 3 (only one shown) moulded in the lid. Each terminal 3 has a groove 4 receiving a sealing ring 5 of an elastically deformable material, the ring extending beyond the groove and being of narrower section in the region 8 between the portion 6 in the groove and the portion 7 outside. Thus when the material of the lid 2 shrinks (shown exaggerated in Fig. 3), the ring 5 maintains its sealing action since the lid engages a part the ring having a greater section. Preferably, the groove 4 widens in the inner direction. A modified ring is of dumb-bell shape (Fig. 4, not shown).
