Abstract

1352864 Chipping knife HAWKER SIDDELEY CANADA Ltd 29 July 1971 [11 May 1971] 14355/71 Heading B5L A knife 15 for chipping logs to produce wood chips has two oppositely directed sides joined longitudinally of the knife by a lateral portion 26. One of the sides provides a front face 22 which is transversely grooved to provide alternate lands 28, and substantially rectangular section grooves 29, which terminate at the portion 26. The portion 26 is bevelled to provide a cutter surface 30 and a clearance surface 32 so that the surface 32 extends at an angle from the rear edge 31 of the surface 30 to a rear face provided by the other of said sides. The cutter surface 30 is intersected at an acute angle by the grooves 29 and lands 28 to provide two parallel rows of longitudinal cutting edges 16.2 and 16.3. The knife is preferably mounted on a frustoconical cutting head 11, Fig. 1, which together wite a similar head 10 is mounted on a driven shaft 13. The heads are arranged to cut two sides of a log 18 fed past them.
