Abstract

1352722 Valves APV CO Ltd 11 Aug 1972 [23 Aug 1971] 39432/71 Heading F2V In a fluid flow control device having three equiangularly spaced flow connections 12 whose terminal portions 13 are coplanar, selective connection of any two connections 12 with simultaneous blockage of the remaining connection 12, is effected, repectively, by a U- shaped connector 27, (the plane of which extends at right angles to the plane of the drawing), and a closure member 79. A strut 28 carries both a socket 29 through which the connector 27 passes and the closure plate 79 which engages the third connection 12, the strut being secured to a piston-rod 17. Piston-rod 17 carries a piston 16 the opposite sides of which are selectively pressurizable by way of lines 38 and 39, and a collar 42 the periphery of which carries three equiangularly spaced camfollowers 43, the followers being arranged for co-operation with a compound cam groove 44 formed in a block 45 releasably secure to plate 11. The terminal portion of piston-rod 17 is grooved as at 61 for selective engagement with a latch member 64, 65, 66 movable between its extreme position by pressurization of ports 68 and 69. In operation, as piston 16 is caused to move to the left, as seen in the drawing, so connector 27 and closure 79 are disengaged from their flow connections 12. Immediately after such disengagement, the piston-rod 17, and hence also members 27, 28 and 29, has a rotational component imparted thereto by the co-operation of one cam 43 with the cam track 44, such rotation being equal to half of the angle that is subtended between two adjacent flow connections 12. Thereafter the ends of connector 27 and closure plate 79 become firmly engaged with seatings 14 about connections 12. Finally, latch 64 is moved into engagement with rod recess 61 and piston 16 is de-pressurized, the latch retaining the piston-rod in a position correspondto proper sealing of flow connections 12. Movement of the various members is monitored and controlled by sensor devices 71, 72 (73, 74, Fig. 4, not shown). Additionally, a flushing device (75, 76, 77, 78, Figs. 4, 5, not shown) may be made operative to clean the terminal portions of members 12, 27 and 79 when these are in disengagement.
