Abstract
1352613 Cross-linking agar EXPLOATERINGS AB TBF 25 June 1971 [25 June 1970 3 June 1971] 30017/71 Headings C3U and C3H A modified agar, suitable for use as an adsorbent in chromatography, consists of cross-linked beads of whole agar or of a gel-forming fraction prepared from agar, said beads having been produced by treating water-swollen, solid agar beads with, as cross-linking agent, a bisepoxide or divinyl sulphone, said beads being substantially insoluble in water and in aqueous caustic alkali at raised temperatures. Preferably the modified agar product is free from ionogenic groups and the carboxyl groups present in the initial cross-linked product have been reduced to alcoholic groups. Enzymes and proteins, e.g. ribonuclease, antilyphocyte globulin, soyabean trypsin inhibitor, or raw extract of bovine pancreas powder (i.e. chymotrypsin) may be coupled with the gel by adding solutions thereof to the gel.
