1352405 Tampons J A GLASSMAN 12 July 1971 32528/71 Heading A5R A tampon comprises a core of compressed liquid-absorbing material positioned between opposed portions of one layer (Fig. 7) or two layers (Fig. 2) of a relatively uncompressed moisture-adsorbing material, a layer of moisture-impervious material being arranged between the core and the or each layer of moisture-absonbing material. In Fig. 2, a core 17 is positioned between two layers 14, with intermediate impervious layers 16 perforated at 16a, and also gauze layers 15 impregnated with-medicament or deodorant. In Fig. 7, a core 26 is enclosed by a layer 21, with intermediate impervious and gauze layers 25, 24. An outer layer 22 of the moisture-absorbing material is, however, also provided, together with a further impervious layer 23. The outer layer 22 may be perforated at 28 and have surface channels (29), Fig. 8 (not shown). The absorbent portions may be of cotton fibres. The tampons are enclosed in tubular applicators (18), (20), Figs. 1, 4 (not shown).
