Abstract
A catamenial tampon consists of a laminated structure comprising outer and inner layers of soft moisture-absorbent material, the inner layer being larger than the outer. Centrally arranged on top of the inner layer is a highly compressed mass of fluid absorbent material which is smaller than the inner layer. The inner and outer layers and mass are centrally stitched together, the surrounding areas being gathered together into a tube-like formation. On wetting, the compressed mass expands to open up the surrounding layers into a cup-shape.
