1351992 Piles; well points SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 3 June 1971 [5 June 1970] 18859/71 Headings E1F and E1H An above-ground structure is supported on a plurality of friction piles 20 which extend into a water-saturated, unconsolidated soil, each pile 20 being provided with perforations 22, 23 or a permeable portion which drains water from the surrounding soil to consolidate it, thus maintaining the water content of the soil at or below the level at which the structure is supported stably therein by said piles. A pump 25 discharges the water up a tube 24.
