Abstract

1,020,660. Wells &c. RAYMOND INTERNATIONALE Inc. Jan. 4, 1965 [Jan. 8, 1964], No. 211/65. Heading El F. Sand drains are installed in water-bearing earth 10 by driving tubes 14, 15 into the earth, removing the tube 15 with a plug 16 of earth, introducing sand into the tube 16 and withdrawing the tube 14. The tubes are driven into the earth by a vibrator 18 attached to the tubes by clamps 20. During withdrawal of the tube 15 a valve 17<SP>1</SP> is closed and the vibrator is fixed to the tube 15 by further clamps. The plug may be removed from the tube 15 prior to inserting the tube into the tube 14 before introducing the sand. The tubes are driven as far as the layer of rock 11 and a layer 12 of sand is distributed over the earth to drive the water into the drains.
