Abstract

1351991 Controlling fuel injection pumps; regulating I C engine fuel injection KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A G 1 June 1971 [1 June 1970] 18346/71 Headings F1A and FiB The delivery of fuel to an injector 15 by an injection pump 6 is controlled by an electromagnetic valve 18, 19 in a by-pass line 17, 21 branched from the pump delivery, the valve being opened at a variable point during each pumping stroke as determined by a pulse generator (not shown). The valve comprises a piston 19 held in a position closing the by-pass 17, 21 by electric energization thereof. On de-energization by the pulse generator a spring 20 causes the valve to open. The valve may be mounted in the pump body, the injector body or a separate body. A similar electromagnetic valve may be provided in the pump's suction line 8 whereby if the valve is closed before the piston 4 closes the line 8 the commencement of injection occurs earlier. The way in which a multi-cylinder engine is controlled by input signals representative of engine speed, torque or exhaust gas temperature or composition is described.
