Abstract

1351914 Finishing fabric CLUETT PEABODY & CO Inc 28 June 1972 [9 Feb 1972] 30274/72 Heading DIS A fabric having a high potential shrinkage is. finished by impregnating the fabric with a finishing liquid to a moisture content in excess of 50% by weight, partially drying the fabric to a moisture content between 10% and 30%, preferably 15%, by weight, compressively preshrinking the fabric, and fully drying the fabric. As shown, the fabric 10 is fed from a roll 22 by a motor 24 monitored by a tachometer 26 to a padder 14 for impregnation with a liquid 12 including starches, lubricants, rewetters and hand modifiers. Guide rolls 40, 42, 44, 46, 48 convey the fabric to a series of hot cans 16 and rolls 52, 54, 56 convey the fabric to a sensor 58 for sensing the moisture content of the fabric. Dancer rolls 42, 54 may 'be weighted. Rolls 60, 62 feed the fabric to a clip tenter 64 from which it passes via rolls 66, 68 to a compressive shrinking unit 18 comprising a rotary heated drum 70 and a relatively thick rubber belt 78. A spray 79 may be also provided. The fabric passes through a Palmer dryer 20 having a felt belt 80 heated by a drum 82. Finally, a plaiter 84 lays the fabric in a cart 86. The speed of the dryer 20 is controlled by a motor 92 monitored by a tachometer 94 synchronized with the tachometer 26.
