Abstract

1351460 Surgical treatment chambers C C SCOTT 23 July 1971 [23 April l970] 19475/70 Heading A5R [Also in Division F4] A surgical operating chamber comprises panels 12, a frame consisting of vertical members 10 and horizontal members 11 which projects below the panels, and a ceiling consisting of modules 21 through which a flow of air is induced, and filtered. The modules each comprise filter members (24, 25), Fig. 2 (not shown), and air is drawn through an intake 22 and through the fitters to the chamber by a fan (23), Fig. 2 (not shown). The filter members (25) extend over the entire lower surface of the module and preferably have a pore size of 0.3 micron. An operating lamp is so formed that it provides minimal obstruction to air flow. In operation air passes vertically downwardly through the chamber at about 1 mph, and out below the panels 12. The panels consist of a glazed portion 13 and an opaque portion 14 and may be made from glass or plastics. The members 10 and 11 may be made from 2" x 2" square section steel tubing. The chamber may be provided with castors. Inwardly opening double doors 9, a transfer hatch 15 and a speak-through hatch 16 may be provided.
