Abstract
1351356 Driving passenger conveyers HITACHI Ltd 11 May 1971 [15 May 1970] 14314/71 Heading B8A A passenger conveyer (Fig. 1, not shown) is driven by a sprocket 10 which is mounted in resiliently yieldable bearings (not shown) so that when the tractive load of the conveyer increases beyond a predetermined point, a drive chain 5 of the sprocket 10 can deflect by an amount I to energize a microswitch 25 (Fig. 5). This is used to short circuit a resistance (R 2 ) (Fig. 7, not shown) in the circuit of an emergency brake, so as to increase the braking force. This braking force may be increased in a plurality of such steps. There may be a continuously applied brake (14) (Fig. 8, not shown) as well as the emergency brake.
