Abstract

1276922 Endless passenger conveyers EXPRESS LIFT CO Ltd 20 March 1970 [4 Feb 1969] 6062/69 Heading B8A The tread-elements 1 of an escalator or moving side-walk are each provided with side walls 3 to move therewith and prevent passengers' footwear from coming into contact with the stationary balustrades 6. The leading and trailing edges of the walls 3 are rearwardly inclined to the direction of conveyance to prevent interference with the preceding and succeeding tread elements and are complementary so that the side walls form a substantially continuous surface in the horizontal reaches of the escalator or moving side walk. In an alternative embodiment (not shown) endless belts extend along each side of the tread-elements to move therewith.
