Abstract
1351295 Coking oils RUTGERSWERKE AG 1 June 1972 [19 April 1971] 23195/71 Heading C5E Anisotropic coke for graphitizing is made from the aromatic residual oil obtained in pyrolysing a petroleum fraction to gaseous olefins by polymerizing the oil under pressure at a temperature in the range 300‹ to 400‹ C., immediately flash distilling the polymerized oil to separate fractions boiling up to 350‹ C., and carbonizing, e.g. by delayed coking, the sump product at a temperature in the range 450‹ to 550‹ C. and from 1 to 6À5 atmos. excess pressure. The carbonized product may be calcined. Polymerization is preferably performed at from 4 to 10 atmos. and for from 10 to 60 minutes, and the sump product may be mixed with a coal tar fraction or a highly aromatic petroleum product boiling above 220‹ C. or the original residual oil freed from light oils.
