Abstract
1351247 Polyesters GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 19 April 1971 [6 April 1970] 23861/71 Heading C3R [Also in Division B2] The rate of condensation of crosslinkable thermosetting polyesters to be used for coating, e.g. of steel hooks, is controlled by the addition to the condensation mixture of 0À1-5À0% by weight, based on the weight of the polyester produced, of a hindered phenolic phosphite of the formula in which R is a hydrocarbon radical containing 4-10 carbon atoms, P is phosphorus, y and z are 1 or 2 and the sum of y and z equals 3, and A is of the formula in which R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are the same or different tertiary alkyl radicals containing 4-9 carbon atoms, R<SP>111</SP> and R<SP>1111</SP> are hydrogen or alkyl radicals containing 1-10 carbon atoms, the dangling valency bond is in the 2 or 4 position, the hydroxy group is in the 2<SP>1</SP> or 4<SP>1</SP> position respectively, and X is -S-, -O- or a saturated aliphatic divalent radical containing 1-10 carbon atoms. In examples the polyesters are poly(ethylene/cyclohexylene dimethylene/glyceryl/terephthalate) or poly(tetramethylene/glyceryl/terephthalate) copolymers to which are added a hindered phenol phosphite derived from nonyl phenol and isopropylene ditertiary butyl bis phenol, and triphenyl phosphonate. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,108,333 and 1,007,817.
