Abstract
1,261,613. Polyurethanes. STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO. 28 May, 1969 [4 June, 1968], No. 26882/69. Headings C3C and C3R. [Also in Division C2] Compounds of the formula where n is 0 to 5, R 1 , R 2 and R 5 are alkyl, haloalkyl, hydroxy alkyl or aryl, R 3 , R 4 and R 6 are hydrogen, alkyl, haloalkyl or aryl and A is -(C m H 2m O) x-1 C m H 2m - where x is 1 to 6 and m is 2-4, which are prepared by forming a reaction mixture of a carbonyl compound of formula R 3 R 4 C=O with an amine of formula HNR 5 R 6 wherein the molar ratio of carbonyl compound to amine is at least 1À1/1À0 and reacting with a phosphonate of formula in an amount not exceeding one mole per mole of amine, are used as flame retardants for polyurethane polymers. The corresponding hydroxyalkylaminoalkyl phosphonates are particularly effective as they may be copolymerized with the polyisocyanates.
