Abstract

1351219 Baffle plate assemblies for separating suspensions T MOCHIZUKI 22 June 1971 [31 July 1970] 29155/71 Heading B1D Suspension flows generally horizontally along a tank divided by spaced rows of baffle plates 1, 2, 3 into paths 5 of zig-zag vertical section (Fig. 2) the lower ends of plates 1, 2 or separate extensions 10 thereof reaching almost to the upper surfaces of plates 2, 3 below to leave gaps 13 through which solids may slide downwards undistrurbed by any upflow of clarified liquid. In Fig. 2 and in elaborations thereof illustrated in Figs. 3 to 6 (not shown) clarified liquid rises into zones 14 and flows therealong to pass over a weir (9) at the discharge end of the tank (Fig. 13, not shown). In Fig. 7 and in Figs. 8 to 11 (not shown) other gaps 4 are provided through which clarified liquid rises as it passes along the tank. Some embodiments involve vertical extensions of the plates (12) which are connected to bars (11) to tie the plate assembly together.
