Abstract
1458673 Fluidized bed distributer plates CLAUDIUS PETERS AG 16 Nov 1973 [17 Nov 1972] 53408/73 Headings F4B and F4U [Also in Division B1] The invention relates to a method of achieving countercurrent contact, e.g. for heat exchange, between a material to be fluidized and a fluidizing medium in a fluidized bed reactor wherein said material is passed downwards and fluidizing medium is passed upwards through a plurality of superimposed fluidized bed plates each of which has a plurality of orifices distributed over its surface for passage of both the fluidizing medium and said material, and in which at least the lowermost plate is formed with split level surfaces with an upper surface or upper surfaces separated by a respective weir portion or portions from a lower surface or surfaces whose total area and total free cross-section area are less than or equal to the total area and total free cross-section area respectively of the upper surface(s), the upper surface or surfaces each having a plurality of orifices, and the lower surface or surfaces having at least one orifice of larger diameter than the orifices of the upper surface(s), said material passing downward simultaneously with the fluidizing medium passing upwards through at least the orifices of the upper surface(s) of the fluidized bed plate(s) having split level surfaces.
