Abstract
1350532 Reactors COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 25 Aug 1972 [26 Aug 1971] 39816/72 Heading G6C A device for manipulating the core assemblies of an axially vertical nuclear reactor comprises a plug 11 from which is suspended a cover 11b provided with instruments for monitoring the core assemblies, the plug 11 being coaxial with the core 4 and eccentrically mounted in a plug 7 eccentrically bearing an arm 9 for manipulating assemblies gripped by means mounted on a radial arm 10 at the foot of the arm. These means can be brought into vertical alignment with any core assembly by the combined rotation of the plug 7 and the arm 9. Before this is possible, it is necessary to withdraw the plug 11 upwardly into a bell vessel 12 mounted in sealing-tight manner on the plug 7 in order that the arm 10 may reach the fissile assemblies 4a of the core 4. The space above the fissile assemblies 4a is normally occupied by the cover 11b with its monitoring instruments. The invention is described with particular reference to a sodium-cooled fast reactor in which the fissile assemblies 4a are surrounded by fertile assemblies 4b, protective assemblies 4c, and a lateral support structure 4d.
