Abstract

1350388 Load responsive control of fluid pressure brakes BENDIX WESTINGHOUSE Ltd 28 May 1971 [26 Aug 1970] 40962/70 Heading F2F In a spring-applied fluid pressure releasable brake system for a vehicle or tractor-trailer arrangement having a first axle whose loading with variation of vehicle load varies more than that of a second axle, the braking effort on the first axle initially increases with increased applied effort but thereafter is reduced with further increase of applied effort. A reservoir 1 for compressed air is connected to a control valve 2 which has an output conduit 21 connected to two relay valves 3 and 4 of which valve 3 is an inverse valve and the brake cylinder 7 is connected to the outputs of the valves via a double check valve 6 and a load-responsive valve 5 so that as pressure in a conduit 61 falls with increase in control movement the spring applies the brake until the rise of pressure in conduit 51 takes over and by opposing the spring decreases the braking effort.
