Abstract
1350340 Protecting furnace linings CREUSOT-LOIRE 18 Feb 1972 [2 April 1971] 7593/72 Heading F4B Refractory parts, particularly the lining of a converter, are protected from corrosion by hot metal or slug by supplying a carbon containing protective liquid under pressure to flow slowly and continuously through the refractory part to the cover surface. A tar bonded refractory brick, Fig. 1, has a passage 6 connected to branch passages 4, 5 and to a supply pipe penetrating an impermeable coating on the faces of the brick not subjected to wear. The supply pipes may be arranged to encircle each layer of bricks in a converter, and the protective liquid may be fuel oil or preheated tar. The impermeable coat or 5 sides of a rectangular block may be metal, or a dense refractory, and the body of the brick should be porous.
