Abstract

1350158 Coaxial switches BUNKERRAMO CORP 7 July 1971 [3 Sept 1970] 31970/71 Heading H1N A microwave coaxial switch has a rectangular chamber 32 proportioned to form a waveguide below cut-off for the principal waveguide mode in the operating frequency of the switch ; at least two spaced terminals 14, 16, 18 projecting into the chamber 32; a blade (such as 48, 50) positioned in the chamber to be movable between an active position (as blade 48) interconnecting two of said terminals and an inactive position (as blade 50) in which the blade is stored out of the normal wave propagation path for said waveguide. The drawings show a changeover arrangement with the blades 48, 50 on spring biased pins 54, 56 which move the blades into a recess 46 when in the inactive position in which a blade is urged into contact with an upper wall 52 of the recess with no portion of the blade projecting into the rectangular chamber. The blades may have a bow of up to 6 mils and the surface of the upper wall 56 engaged by the blades is flat to within 4 mils tolerance. A rocker 62 pivoted at 64 is movable by an electromagnet 70 against the bias of a spring 66. Pins 54, 56 engage the rocker 62 on opposite sides of its pivot 64 so that contact terminals 20, 22 are bridged by blade 48 or contact terminals 22, 24 are bridged by blade 50.
