Abstract

1349988 Wheel load measuring device BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD 30 March 1972 [2 April 1971] 8529/71 Heading G1W A portable load measuring device, particularly for use in measuring the individual wheel loads of railway vehicles, comprises two rigidly connected supports 1, 2 which are, in use, positioned to engage a wheel from below. The supports 1, 2 include hydraulic jacks to which hydraulic fluid is supplied under pressure by the manual operation of a pump 19. Bodies 3 rise on activation of the jacks, chamfered edges 13 then engaging the tread of the wheel, so as to lift it clear of the rail. A gauge 22 indicates the hydraulic pressure required, or may be calibrated so as to give a reading directly in pounds weight.
