Abstract

1349797 Injection moulding machines K CLAES 16 June 1971 [16 June 1970 (2)] 28280/71 Heading B5A An injection moulding machine, e.g. for making dental prostheses comprises an injection head 8 adapted for ready mounting and dismounting, the head being capable of holding a supply of resin sufficient for a plurality of articles to be moulded, and an injection mould 4 provided with means for rapidly sealing it after the material has been injected. As shown the injection head has projections 21, 22, 23 adapted to pass through spaces between projections 12, 13, 14 on a flange 9 and to co-operate therewith. The flange 9 is mounted on a part 1 of the injection machine. One set of projections is straight and the other has bevelled inner surfaces (24), Fig. 7 (not shown), to ensure tight fitting of the injection head. The injection head includes an inner cylinder 25 axially slidable in an outer portion 18. An injection plunger 10 carries a cylindrical nut 16 made of slightly compressible material, e.g. nylon. An extension 17 of the plunger 10 can extend into a bore 34 in a plug 33 slidable within the cylinder 25. When the plunger 10 is retracted the plug 33 remains in contact with the moulding material and prevents access of air thereto. The mould 4 (Figs. 18, 19) comprises two parts 35, 36 held together by bolts 37 and provided with an injection opening 38. The opening 38 is readily sealed by a plate 45 slidable into a space between L-shaped members 39, 40. A bevelled surface on the plate 45 co-operates with the members 39, 40 to ensure a tight fit against the opening 38.
