1349625 Machines for packaging wool; yarn; and like strands LITTLETON STREET WOOLLEN SPINNERS Ltd 20 March 1973 [21 March 1972] 13250/72 Heading B8C In a cutting device, for cutting into predetermined lengths bunched and wrapped strands of yarn arranged in a closely-packed, parallel, relationship within tubular wrapping material, bunched and wrapped yarns are intermittently advanced through a tube 36 while a cutter, comprising a steel cutting band 82 looped around wheels 81, 81, accommodated in a vertically reciprocable housing 39, is stationary in its lowered, inoperative, position below the tube 36, as shown. Each time the housing 39 is raised into its operative position while the roll of wrapped yarns is stationary, a wrapped package, of the desired length, is cut from the roll of wrapped yarns by the cutting band 82 which is driven through one of its wheels 81, 81, the individual packages falling down a delivery shoot 88 in the housing 39. The downward thrust of the cutting band 82 is transferred to thrust blocks 83 and rollers 84. The knife edge of the band 82 can be sharpened by a pair of grinding wheels 85, 85 which are movable into contact with the band by scissor linkages 87. The housing 39 can be actuated by an hydraulic, or pneumatic, piston-and-cylinder unit or, by cam-mechanism.
