Abstract

1349491 Determination of primary amino group containing compounds F HOFFMANNLA ROCHE & CO AG 20 Oct 1971 [21 Oct 1970] 48721/71 Heading B1X A reagent for the determination of primary amine group-containing compounds comprises a solution in an inert organic solvent of ninhydrin and an aryl alkyl aldehyde of formula Ar(CH 2 )n CHO, where n is 1 to 8. The reagent is mixed with the sample, the mixture is heated to produce a fluorescent substance and the amount of fluorescent substance is measured. The test may be carried out at pH 4 to 9, preferably 6 to 8. The sample may be the effluent from a chromatography column, when the effluent stream is mixed with a stream of reagent and buffer solution and passed through a mixing coil and a heating bath into a continuous flow cell of a fluorophotometer. The reagent may also be used for developing paper or thin layer chromatograms.
