1349273 Road sweeping machines H STRAUB 19 April 1971 [16 March 1970] 24169/71 Heading E1E A sweeping machine comprises two vertically movable sweeper units 9, 10 the second unit 10 being laterally movable. Each unit comprises a housing containing a brush and connected by hoses 18, 15 to a low pressure debris collection chamber having an evacuating blower. The housings are pivoted to arms 8, 11 which are raisable by hydraulic cylinders 46. Arm 11 comprises parallel laterally spaced arms 11a, 11b and is pivoted to a lever 13, so that pivoting of lever 13 by hydraulic cylinder 14 causes lateral movement of housing 10 but no change in its orientation. A spring between housing 10 and arm 11 returns the housing after deflection by an obstacle. The sweeper housings contain the brushes at the front and have a rear skirt (28). The housing outlets contain pulverising wheels (Fig. 4a, not shown) and a plurality of brushes may be obliquely arranged in front of the housing (Fig. 7, not shown).
