Abstract
1349067 Pile fabrics FIELDCREST MILLS INC 25 March 1971 7842/71 Headings D1E and D1K A pile fabric loom wherein loops are formed around warp-wise pile wires 24, has two weftwise extending rows of pile yarn guides 95, 96 which rows are shoggable independently of one another and are dipped into the shed below the level of weft insertion before each pick and raised out of the shed after weft insertion, the yarn guides being adjustable between two vertical positions on their respective guide bar 104, 105 such that during weft insertion the set of pile yarns A guided by guide 95 and set B guided by guides 96 may both be guided beneath the level of two weft inserters 22 and 23, (Fig. 13, not shown) or one set may be guided beneath both inserters and are between them, Fig. 14, or both sets may be guided between the weft inserters (Fig. 15, not shown). The pile warps can be shogged at each pick over one or more pile wires sideways, or from one pile wire to the next adjacent in the same direction for a number of successive picks. Inserters 22 and 23 are needles inserting loops of weft. The pile yarn guides 95 and 96 are attached to blocks 101, 102 provided with keys 102 103 which may be positioned in upper or lower keyways 107, 109 and 106, 108 in the guide bars 104, 105. Guide bars 104 and 105 are slidable on a common rod 116 and are connected by arms 120 and 125 respectively to a tubular sleeve 121 and an inner coaxial shaft 123. The rows of guides 95 and 96 are shogged relative to each other by a pattern chain (157) Fig. 4 (not shown) carrying two rows of lugs of various heights according to a pattern, which, chain is reciprocated so that the rows of lugs act on the respective ends of shaft 123 and sleeve 121 to slide them relative to each other and the warp pattern mechanism are provided on both sides of the loom. The yarn guides are lowered into and raised out of the shed by an arm 133 reciprocated by a crank arm (134) Fig. 3, (not shown) fixed to reed rocker shaft (72). Pile wires 24 are controlled via cables (84) Fig. 1 (not shown) by a pattern mechanism (85) which may be a Jacquard, so that they may be selectively pulled out of the weaving zone. The pile wires (Figs. 16-19, not shown) may have portions of different height so as to produce different depths of pile, and may have a blade integral therewith. Loops of weft are inserted simultaneously in superposed sheds between upper and lower ground warps C 1 , C 2 and stuffer warps 5. One of the sets of pile warps may be floated for a number of picks, and to hold it in place on the underside of the fabric, the other set of warps instead of being shogged each pick over the same pile wire may be shogged to the adjacent wire every few picks to form a binder under the floating warp (Fig. 20, not shown).
