Abstract

1347976 Antiskid braking systems GIRLING Ltd 23 July 1971 [9 Sept 1970] 43116/70 Heading F2F In an antiskid braking system for a vehicle wheel speed, tachogenerators 11, 12 feed signals to frequency-to-voltage converters 13, 14 the outputs of which pass to a switch 15 which emits a signal to the remainder of the circuit of the signal from the slowest rotating wheel and two differentiating circuits producing signals responsive respectively to deceleration and acceleration receive the signal from switch 15 to relieve and apply the brakes through valve 64. The first differentiating circuit includes a PNP transistor 18 having its emitter connected through a capacitor 16 to switch 15 and is further connected through a diode 19 to a positive supply line 21, to a negative line 25 through resistor 26 and diode 27 and to the base of an NPN transistor 28. When the brakes are applied the first differentiating circuit produces at the emitter of transistor 28 a signal representing deceleration which is fed by way of a diode 35 to amplifier 56, 62 which forces current to flow in valve 64. As deceleration increases more current flows in valve 64 so that the braking effort is relieved. The second differentiating circuit comprises a capacitor 17 and NPN transistor 36 the collector of which is connected to the base of an NPN transistor having its collector connected to a further positive supply line 32 and its emitter connected to the base of an NPN transistor 26. As the braking effort is relieved the second differentiating circuit produces an output at the emitter of a transistor 46 representative of wheel acceleration which is amplified and inverted by an amplifier 49 provided with negative feedback through a resistor 54 and also applied to amplifier 56, 62. A signal now appears through a diode 34 to control amplifier 56, 62 and cause current to flow through valve 64. Because of the signal inversion greater acceleration produces a greater signal through diode 34. Capacitors 22, 23 counteract temperature variations.
