Spigot-and-socket joints with packing at base of socket.-A tube, rod, or the like is held against endlong movement by a ring of struts inclined to its axis and frictionally engaging its surface. In the application to a pipe joint shown in the drawings a cone A is radially divided and formed with notches G which clear the retaining projections F on the union nut B when the cone is inserted in the nut. When the nut is screwed up the struts into which the cone is divided force the pipe C against packing on the face of the pipe D.
